Yes, there is the "Hidar Tsion Mariam" religious festival, the commemoration of Mariam or Marry, which commence the pilgrimage to Axum on September 26th. This orthodox Christian celebration is associated with the presence of the Ark of the Covenant in that city and the belief that the Ark itself is a symbolism to Her Womb.

This festival is attended by 15.000 people from all over Ethiopia, making it one of the most Joyful annual pilgrimages to this, the sacred city for Ethiopians. On this date, early morning the crowd attends the annual celebration of Saint Marry with the priests chanting the church music, beating the drums and the ordinary people who are gathered cheering and attending the festival.

For this festivity the resident people in Axum prepare the local beer, coffee and fasting foods (because of the fasting period before Christmas) and invite their far distance relatives to come.
