This video explains the 1918 Influenza epidemic very well. It is a segment from a feature about viruses that talks solely about the 1918 epidemic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByZjpJJNUpE

Last one's not working.
My great-grandma helped during this epidemic. She went to the homes of others who'd been struck by it and helped nurse them. They were in a rural community. None of her 11 kids, or their several score of cousins' families, were killed by it, but many on surrounding farms were.

I'm saddened to hear about your family, and what they went through. Thankfully, there was no loss of life, as you mention... but my heart goes out to all those who perished on account of this epidemic.
