I have been drinking an amazing home made, cold ginger tea for the last month. I tried it first at a local cafe after giving up coffee and was stunned by the delicious taste, the burst of energy and lively feeling that followed.

I decided to recreate it at home. After a few tries, I got it down. Every night, I peel and chop a few cups of ginger, and toss it into a big pot of water. I let it simmer for about twenty mins, while doing other stuff, then let it cool, add some honey or Stevia, and let it steep. I then strain it into a big pitcher and stick in in the fridge. I drink it all the next day whenever I feel hungry or thirsty.

I have noticed some pretty thrilling results. First of all, half of my normal, daily 'cravings' have disappeared. My body feels better regulated than it has in months, and even my skin feels great. I don't generally enjoy drinking water, but this is so tasty I could drink it endlessly. I've also turned on a lot of friends to it and now they make it as well. I recently googled to see if the ginger and weight loss was my imagination.... and found that this has been kind of a historical fact!

I do a lot of my shopping at the co-op but for my ginger ritual, I go to the Asian markets and stock up for just a few dollars. It also takes a very short time to get it going, and the results are marvelous.
Asker's Rating:
• I believed that tea herbs being natural has to bring in some kind of medicinal as well as refreshing effect. In the earlier days people use tea for medicine and other purposes.

It was about 10 minutes ago... and it was a cup of PG TIPS
http://www.pgtips.co.uk/teas/

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f7/PGTipsRA.png

not one of the worlds 'craft teas', nothing that required special brewing techniques, but probably the fuel that keeps the UK working.

Just put the bag in the cup, add boiling water, stir, talk to colleagues, remove bag and add milk.

According to Wikipedia (and we all know how true that is) British people drink 35 million cups of PG tips a day!

And I had a chocolate hobnob to go with it

30 seconds ago, black leaf tea with milk and one sugar

ha! I'm a tea addict, my favourite is normal black tea but I like orange tea and mint tea too :)

I make a very simple orange tea at home for hot days when I'm sick of cold water or cold drinks

I use about two matchstick-sized slivers of orange peel in cup of hot boiled water! That's it! It's amazing how much orange oil comes out in the water...its refreshing and makes your mouth feel great :) and so quick and easy.

And for mint I just grab a few leaves from the garden and put them in my cup of hot water.

oh gosh, gotta go
I think I need another cup :)

Just the other night, and it was peppermint tea. Celestial Seasonings this time, only because I no longer have a tea set to make "real" tea from the herb. I also drink a few other Celestial Seasonings teas on a regular basis, like chamomile, CS Tension Tamer, CS Detox, CS Sleepytime and a few flavored teas. :)

Lately I've been trying the non tea plant based teas. Orange, mint, ginger, etc... My wife says I am a hummingbird but I think my favorite is the mint with a lot of sugar.

Truthfully though, the last tea I had was some bottled diet ginseng tea. Tasted like water that had been soaking in a dirty shoe for a week.

I keep a ridiculous variety of teas (i.e. 50+) on hand and mix several of them to create whatever flavor I am looking for. I often get teased when someone watches me make tea because the process looks more like a mad scientist crafting a potion than it does someone making a hot beverage.

Yesterday I made a variation on sweetened Indian Chai:

* 3 parts Chai

* 1 part Vanilla Ceylon

* 1 part Decaf White Vanilla

* A pinch of dried fruits and mulling spices (the sort of thing you might add to a spicy holiday tea, mulled cider or hot spiced wine)

* Sweetened Condensed Milk

* Indian Tea Spice (garnish)

Since I planned to mix the tea with the sweet milk, I brewed it extra strong and used a bit of decaf tea to keep it from getting hyper-caffeinated. The result was a strong, rich, sweet and creamy black tea with a pleasant variety of spices and strong undertones of vanilla. A perfect way to wake up on a lazy Sunday morning.

I am drinking tea, right this very second. I am drinking CHAI, not the concentrate or pre made mix. But actual real chai, cooked on the stovetop...brings me back to my time with the Tibetan refugees in Nepal.
