Caffeine is usually used to treat a migraine headaches, and interestingly enough Excedrin has caffeine in it, too. The reason caffeine is used is because it is a stimulant that will dilate your blood vessels in your brain causing more blood flow to it therefore headaches are relieved. Your body and your blood vessels will compress after you stop taking the caffeine, so you might get another headache as less blood is flowing to your brain, as your body might become dependent on it.
I've experienced both ends as a migraine sufferer. As long as I don't take the caffeinated Migraine Excedrin for more than a day, I don't have the withdrawal headache. Or I can bring myself down gently by replacing it with coffee or tea and slowly drinking less over about a week.
You can tell if it's a high blood pressure thing by drinking a little liquid magnesium (I use Natural Calm as being quickly absorbed). It relaxes muscles and blood vessels. It gets many of my migraines. If it doesn't chase it, then I take the Excedrin if it's before 2 p.m.

Since my blood pressure has always run on the low side this made sense. When I actually did a search tho I find that half the sites say Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and half vasodilator.
