This is an all-too-common problem. When I was a consultant, my wife and I paid $638 a month for health insurance with a high deductible (we are both under 30 and have no health issues - it is absurdly expensive). Go to this site:

It is a major player in this area and you are sure to get a better understanding of estimated costs.

It gives you other avenues to explore, such as former colleges, business associations, trade societies, etc.
it is an unfortunate position. Every time I think of taking the plunge, I think of how much it would cost if I had a car accident, or my wife were injured, etc. I think this is the biggest area that prevents entrepreneurship. The benefits are just too good at a high-level corporate job.
