What is wrong with my knee?
My knee has been painful for the last 3 weeks. I believe that I dove on it but 3 weeks ago but there was no immediate pain. There was, however, a bruise that got bigger and did not go away for a week and a half. 4 days after the day of injury I went to the regular doctor. She said that she thought it was broken (my knee) and I went to get x-rays. The x-rays showed no sign of a break so I was reffered to a orthopedic doctor. He immediately said that my MCL was torn and that I may have torn my meniscus. I went for an MRI (this was a week and a half after the injury) and the MRI came back saying no MCL damage, no meniscus tear, but a possible desmoid tumor or bone contusion was found and to correlate clinically. I went back to the doctor (about 2 1/2 weeks after incident now) and he asked more about the injury itself and what i was doing exactly. I recalled that the pain came first randomly and I assumed that I had done something to it during a sport. He said that if I did not know that I had done something to my knee it was likely to be a desmoid tumor. He then took more x-rays and said that he believed that he saw something pertruding into my bone from the back of my knee. However, now another doctor believes that the MRIs were read wrong and that it cannot be a desmoid tumor. I need some guidance to clear all this confusion. I am going to a doctor who deals with bone growths and tumors but the next available appointment is in 2 weeks. I do not think I can wait that long to find out what is wrong with my knee considering I have already waited 3 weeks! If someone could offer any guidance it would be very appreciated.
my symptoms are: pain which is getting better, swelling which is not better, i did have inability to bear weight on my knee, i cannot straighten my knee.
Please help!

I do sympathize with you. I have gone through horrible knee pain from a meniscal tear. Swelling can be your body's reaction to the pain. Before my surgery, my leg, not just my knee, swelled up so much, especially when compared to my other leg, that the doctor's thought I had a blood clot. My leg swelled up from ankle to thigh. My recommendation would be to ice the affected area every few hours, for no more than 20 minutes at a time. This may help to alleviate some of your pain and reduce the swelling. Do not ice it for more than 20 min at a time, as your body will respond by sending more blood to the area to heat it up and it will have the adverse effect of increasing the swelling to the area.

Any diagnosis of your knee that you recieve on the internet without the person seeing it or your test results is of very little value. You are better off seeing another real Doctor who has experience in this area, diagnosis is not an exact science in any profession and relies on the experience of the practioner and the balance of probabilities. Good luck, I hope they figure out your problem soon.
