According to the CDC, Raccoon Roundworm is a rare disease caused by the accidental ingestion of raccoon feces. The worms develop in the intestinal tract of a raccoon and eggs are produced. These eggs can then be passed in the feces. If humans ingest the tiny eggs, the worms can hatch inside the body and the result can be deadly. In Brooklyn, New York, health officials say an infant was left brain damaged and a teenager blind in one eye because of Raccoon Roundworm.
