What is the best gas mask out there? What about the cheapest?
I am not talking about some wimpy surgical mask, I want to know what the best "chemical attack" ready gas mask is. Are their cheaper alternatives?

The MSA Millennium CBA-RCA Gas Mask ($288) is a top rated gas mask as reported in newspapers like the Wall Street Journal shortly after 9/11. This is the top of line consumer gas mask that accepts all 40mm NATO filters (left or right mount), gives you a wide field of vision with a flexible tactical lens, has a drinking capability, and includes a hard, removable outer protective lens. The Hycar Rubber facepiece will protect you from any known biological or chemical warfare agents.
Best Value:
Not all gas masks are purchased by civilians looking for the answer when a chemical attack occurs, many are bought by riot police or others in law enforcement that need them for tactical procedures. The M-95 Military Mask Kit ($175) is an excellent choice and is not as expensive as the MSA gas mask listed above but provides all the protection you need. The M95 gas mask has high-efficiency NBC filters that will save you from chemical and biological agents and from radioactive or toxic particles

I don't know about the best, but here is an inexpensive gas mask from Israel. http://www.keepshooting.com/militarysurplus/protectivegear/israeli-gas-mask.htm

Israel makes some very-good gear, because they sort of have to if they want to, you know, live. U.S. military masks aren't bad. I can tell you, firsthand, that they work as expected if you use them properly. They're easy to find at gun shows, military-surplus stores, and on the Internet. Just be sure that you buy one that actually fits, because one that's too small or too large won't properly seal around your face - then you'll get all sorts of interesting side effects, which you probably won't want. (That, though, is true of any gas mask, not just the U.S.-issue version.)
However, U.S. masks are kind of heavy, and bulky, so don't expect to be able to store one in your slimline briefcase or something. There's a reason why mine was in a drop pouch...which, incidentally, banged my hip every time I took a step.
