You should drink something which contain sugar (ie. Lucozade, Fanta etc) which will bring your blood sugar up quickly.

Then eat some complex carbohydrate (ie. Bread, Crackers etc) so you can make sure your blood sugar does not drop again, as your blood sugar may drop again after a while if you just take a sugary drink and nothing else.

If the diabetic collapses, give them an injection of Glucagon, which stimulates the liver to release glucose into the blood. If nothing happens after 15 minutes, ring for an ambulance.

From MayoClinic:
If your blood sugar level is too low, you may be given an injection of the hormone glucagon. The injection will cause your blood sugar level to quickly rise.

I think this article of the same website is much more informative.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hypoglycemia/DA00063

"Hypoglycemia can lead to seizures and loss of consciousness. Learn how to spot low blood sugar — and what to do about it."

The topics include:

Why blood sugar falls
What to watch out for

What to do

If you think that your blood sugar may be dipping too low, check your blood sugar level. Then eat or drink something that will raise your blood sugar level quickly. For example:

* Five to six pieces of hard candy
* Four ounces (118 milliliters) fruit juice
* Five to 6 ounces (148 to 177 milliliters) regular — not diet — soda
* One tablespoon (15 milliliters) sugar or jelly
* Three glucose tablets (available without a prescription at most pharmacies)

This is very important because not everybody has a glucagon injection at hand, nor know how to use it.

My grandmother was a Type 1 diabetic. Whenever she was having a "reaction", she'd drink some juice and eat some candy (M&Ms, Snicker bar).

Of course, she wasn't very good at taking care of herself most of the time. (I have some stories to tell...)

I can sympathize with this DrMatt , my grandmother recently had a stroke and if it hadn't been for her neighbors she might be completely paralyzed.

I think better preventative care and care takers should be mandatory for people who have low or high blood sugar.

It angers me that more family support for diabetics is flailing. >:-|

Low blood sugar is called as hypoglycemia and treatment goal is to increase the blood sugar or glucose level. What to do to increase blood glucose level?, it is simple consume some glucose rich food of your choice;

whether it is candy, juice, glucose tablets, sugar, honey, glass of milk with sugar, or any other thing which is sweet.

For hypoglycemia detail, its cause, its treatment and prevention; follow the source links.
