Thinking about getting a tap water filter. Any recommendations?
I have been drinking bottled water for a long time, but after reading an article saying how filtered tap water is just as good, I'm looking into getting a water filter.
Some of the brand I looked into were Pur, Brita, and Culligan. They have faucet mounted filters as well as pitchers.
This question has been asked before but I would like to see if there are any new suggestions or recommendations on this topic.

I personally have never used the faucet mounted ones, but have known people that have, it's much more convenient than the pitcher based ones, and you can choose to not use the filter when you just need water for cleaning etc, so that you don't waste the filter.
happy shopping!

Cnet has some excellent reviews of different types of water filter systems. For pitcher style you have the PUR CR-6000 2-stage system:
----quote----PUR filters get top marks for producing the best-tasting water as well as filtering out more contaminants than competing models. You fill the pitcher by hand, and then the water drips through the filter. The PUR CR-6000… pitcher can be stored in the refrigerator. This model holds seven cups, but other sizes are available. The main drawback is that filters may need to be replaced quite often. It's not designed to treat water for any kind of bacteria, but tests show the PUR filters out common pharmaceuticals as well as 21 other contaminants, including cryptosporidium and giardia cysts.

For faucet style you have the PUR FM9400:
----quote----
If you need more filtered water than a pitcher or dispenser can provide, reviews recommend a faucet-mounted water filter. However, owners report lots of problems with this type of filter in general, complaining about… leaks and durability. The PUR FM-9400 is easy to install, and a bypass valve lets you switch between filtered and unfiltered water. The three-stage filter gets good reviews for outstanding filtration and water taste. If you don't need to filter out 30 contaminants, an alternative is the Culligan FM-15A Faucet Filter (*est. $15), which gets better ratings for durability.

lots of good ones. maintenance costs is what I'd look at. how often do you change filters and how much do they cost. also, try to buy them in bulk or on sale. if you buy mail order via phone or online, try to get "free shipping", or bulk discount coupons. good luck!

Well depending on the location, some tap water is better than others. I just like to be extra safe.
