I've known people with disc bulges, including my sister-in-law. Two years ago she had a newish procedure that fixed the problem without removing the disk. You might want to ask a doctor. I don't know details for certain, except that I believe they used silicon somehow in it. I believe that what they did involved placing some kind of firmer plastic around the bulgy areas to shore them up, and then added some silicon to replace any leaking fluid.

Sorry that's not a clearer answer!

I recommend that you see a spine specialist. Columbia University Medical Center has a Spine Center; they offer surgical as well therapeutic options. I have a friend with scoliosis and she has been having physical therapy with them for some time and is very happy with the results. If you are interested, I can get the number of a doctor there. If you don't want to go to CUMC and prefer someplace local, find an orthopedist or neurosurgeon that specializes in spines. It makes a big difference in the type of care you receive.
