The flu shot works by introducing a the dead flu virus into a person's system, which nevertheless prompts the body to generate the antibodies needed to fight that virus.

If someone has already gotten the H1N1 virus, then their body has already produced those antibodies and there is no need for them to get the H1N1 vaccine.

If they have gotten and survived H1N1 they already have the antibodies, so there is no point. Make sure it was really H1N1 though.
