Is this supposed to help Pfizer's market share (giving free prescription drugs)? I am perplexed why they would do this?

All major drug companies offer prescription assistance programs for individuals with no insurance. These programs are usually for drugs with no generic equivalent. Some programs have a fee associated with them and other do not. This may be based on your income level. You work with your physician and the drug company to fill out an annual application for medication assistance. Rules vary from company to company. Go direct to the manufacturers web site for details or checkout the PPA site.
I believe the drug companies do this for a number of reasons, goodwill, brand identity and probably a tax break.
