Migrainehelp.com has a bunch of different possible causes listed. I don't see nicotine as one, but cigarette smoke is there. These are only common causes and they differ from person to person. What creates migraines for one person might not have the same effect on another.

Common causes range from foods, light, strong smells, or the weather. So there is a good chance that nicotine could do it too.

I have had both the traditional migraine and ocular migraines my entire life. When I was younger, I would get two to three of them a week, I almost had to repeat the fourth grade because I missed so much school. Fortunately, as I got older they lessened. Now I get them from extreme stress, large amounts of caffeine, chocolate, or lack of sleep.

One way I found to combat them is to take a hot, and I mean really hot shower, focusing the water on my head and face. For what ever reason, that seems to take the edge off so that I can go to bed and sleep it off.

Hope that helps.

A migraine can be a headache on either/both sides of the head, and/or a period of nausea, vomiting, increased sensitivity of the eyes to light, ears to sound, dizziness, and blurred vision. Many things can trigger a migraine. These include food, food additives, light, odors, stress, weather changes, noise, caffeine, and yes nicotine, to name a few.

According to the Migraine Relief Center, "Yes. Research has shown that smoking and nicotine are migraine triggers for many individuals."

To lesson the impact of a migraine exercise, learn to relax, and try to maintain a regular sleep schedule.
