No. And here are the reasons:

1. Infection - All people getting tattoos risk some kind of infection, and a pregnant woman's body, which is already overloaded taking care of mom & baby will have a tough time fighting the infection for both of them.

2. Ink Unknowns - No one knows what effect the ink could have on the baby. There is a chance it could be pretty darn harmful - remember that tiny amounts of chemicals that may be perfectly harmless to adults might be toxic or deadly to a tiny little fetus.

3. Premature Labor - Have a tattoo inked is a form of "trauma" for the body & brain: pain censors go nuts, blood pressure jacks up, and the body reads it as high stress. This can accidentally trigger early labor, which can be dangerous for the baby.

4. No Epidural During Labor - Ok, this is a bit of a long shot, but if momma-to-be is getting a tattoo on her back, then the hospital might refuse to give her an Epidural. Some (not all) hospitals won't give a spinal like that over a fresh tat.

5. Finding a Place to Get It Done - Many tattoo places won't stick a pregnant woman for insurance reasons. If anything goes wrong w/ the baby, the insurance company won't want to come within a thousand yards of the situation.

If she absolutely WANTS a tattoo, damn the risks, then she should wait until the end of pregnancy - the fetus will be stronger and less vulnerable to some of the above risks (at least that's what some online tattoo places suggest).
