If you are allergic to aspirin, do you have a reaction when using personal care products with salicylates?

If someone is allergic to aspirin, they only think of pills and not salicylates (chemicals found naturally in plants and are a major ingredient of aspirin and other pain-relieving medications. They are also found in many fruits and vegetables, as well as many common health and beauty products per

I am not a doctor, but from what I have read below, it really depends on the type of allergic reaction that you have and how sensitive you are. Some people are required to go on a low salicylate diet, but the majority of people do not need to - the level of salicylates, even in high salicylate foods, is still lower than the amount contained in aspirin. If someone is allergic to aspirin, then they should definitely consult with a doctor about the severity of their condition and what the recommendations for diet are. I have included a number of links below about the condition and the level of salicylate acid in foods and aspirin itself.

Salicylate are found in naturally in many plants and in other products. It is a major component in Aspirin. Therefore, if you are allergic to Aspirin, it could be because you are allergic to the salicylate condent of the medicine. However, the severity of the allergic reaction like the inflammatory response of the body might differ. When taking Aspirin, you take it per orem, meaning by mouth thus it is ingested by the body, thus if you are allergic reaction it can be severe -- and might have anaphylactic reaction. Personal products, gathering that you apply it externally, may have less severity in reaction to most people.

Depending on how sensitive your allergy is, you may have a reaction to ANY product containing salicylates. It would be wise to avoid the beauty products containing salicylates if you do have an allergy to aspirin, which can become worse over time with exposure. Benzoic acid, a carboxylic acid, is found in many products as an alternative to salicylic acid. Benzoic and salicylic acid are from related compounds, so I would recommend using a very small amount as a trial, but it is less likely that you would have an allergic reaction.
