I want to try Wheat Bread/Olive oil however, I have an illeostomy, fibre is not my friend. options?

I have tried whole wheat bread in the past but it tends to give me a bloated feeling in my stomache, not a full feeling. Most diets push high fibre foods, fibre is not friendly to my digestive system, I find it hard to eat healthier foods without consequences, what suggestions do you have?

You really need to discuss this with your doctor. High fiber foods are not always recommended for people with an ileostomy. But the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center offers these tips:
  1. Chew high fiber foods carefully.
  2. Try new high fiber foods (or any food) one at a time. If a new food gives you problems, eliminate it for a few weeks, but try it again later.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids.
  4. Start with a small amount.
High fiber foods (in small amounts) can be beneficial for those with ileostomy. High fiber foods you may want to try to reduce constipation include:
  • bran cereals
  • fresh fruit
  • vegetables (raw and cooked)
  • whole wheat breads
  • whole grain cereals
But remember to chew well and eat small amounts at a time. For more info see the sources below:
