Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
I want to get a tricycle so I can run down to the store. How can I feel good about riding what they call a "SPED" bike?
It's true, mostly they are ridden by the mentally challenged in my town. But I want it so I can stop easily and sit and chat, and carry heavy things and use it like a little car, without the balancing issues. How do I wrap my head around this so I don't feel like I have anything to explain? (I am overwieght, and old..lol..if I don't get a tricycle I probably won't get any cycle at all.. and I'd like the excersize.)

I buy bikes at REI, don't know if you have that in your area. you can mail order from them. http://www.rei.com
LL Bean, http://www.llbean.com
a primarily mailorder company, sells very high quality bikes at incredible prices, they may have tricycles. They also have stores on the East of the US coast, Maine, etc.
K-2 has an excellent product. I own a couple of those for the family. http://www.k2bikes.com
Definitely try something out in person with out without a trailer FIRST. Ask to try it out outside the store on sidewalks etc., and make sure it's easy to navigate in tight areas, hills or ramps.
If you like a certain brand in a store you can always shop around online for it and get a better price. Check the warranty, and be sure to get a tuneup after a few months!
GOOD LUCK!
