I read rubbing alcohol on your fingers will help you develop calluses for guitar playing. Why does this work?

I am learning to play the guitar. I am starting to develp calluses on my fingers. This is a good thing. It helps to have calluses when playing. I was looking for a way to try to get calluses faster and I found that they say that rubbing alcoloho on your fingers 2 - 3 times a day will result in faster calluses. I do not understand the connection between alcohol and a callus. Why does rubbing alcohol on your fingers cause calluses to develop?

The consensus seems to be that it dries out the skin on your fingertips making them more leathery.

Asker's Rating:
• I am still not sure why it dries out the skin because it evaporates within a few minutes.

I was thinking maybe the alcohol might remove all the oils from your fingers or the evaporation of the alcohol might dry the skin.

The rubbing alcohol is best used with a rag to clean your guitar strings. Aside from extending the life of your guitar strings. Its also hygienic to get rid of those germs. Just imagine all the sweat, dirt and dead skin cells it accumulates while playing?

Just keep on practicing and your fingers would toughen up. It might take a while but just be patient. AC/DC said it best its a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll.
