Well, Doctors are Doctors... and I'm not one. Your Doc likely tried to make a diagnosis and at least he/she was honest and told he/she couldn't figure it out.

Doctors are only as good as their experience and training. I'd get a second opinion and ask to see a gastrointestinal specialist.

If the pain is always in the same spot but can not be tied to any other regular event (like eating or physical activity) then it's likely tied to other rhythms in your body. The diagnostic trick will be to figure out what those rhythms are and then change them so that you're not in pain. That will likely be as difficult as it sounds - it won't be an easy path and many busy Doctors may try to "diagnose" the problem by giving you a variety of drugs in the hope that either one or a combination of drugs will make you feel better. Diagnosing with drugs isn't necessarily wrong.

If this was happening to me, I would actively search for other people who have experienced the same thing. The human body is not unique and you can be almost guaranteed that someone at some point has experienced the same problem. Reach out your friends, family, and if you run out of options, trip down to the local retirement center. Those folks have known a lot of different ailments and while it may take you some time to wade through the responses, if you're left with no other options, hearing about similar pain and what was done to resolve it may provide you and your Doctor with options.

I hope that this helps to make you feel better.

All I can tell you is that my mom, grandfather, and husband all have acid reflux and have all thought it was a heart attack. My husband had two complete heart workups before he believed the doctor that it was acid reflux. In the cases of my family, acid reflux medications fixed the problem.

I am not a doctor. However, I was told that any time you have chest pains you should go to the emergency room just in case.

If you're feeling chest pain I suggest calling 911 and getting off the internet right now!

Also, was just reading about sweating being another symptom of a heart attack. This WebMD story goes into some studies about folks ignoring symptoms/delaying going to a hospital.

Also, I suggest seeing more than one doctor if you can figure out a way to do that. Second opinions are VERY important and most folks don't do that. They talk to one doctor and their done.

I have something similar, and it always seems to happen....maybe this is TMI, but...when something I'm digesting passes beneath my ribcage near my heart when I'm reclining. Doesn't do it when I'm sitting or standing. I used to panic about it, but since it will even happen from gas bubbles, it really doesn't bother me anymore. It will hurt for maybe 10 minutes tops.

One thing that I have found is that there is a pressure point at the base of my rib cage on the back left side right by my spine. When I have that pain and it's intense, I find that having someone else put pressure on that spot alleviates the pain in my chest. I can't really put enough pressure on it myself, unfortunately.

I hope that helps. You should probably have another heart workup just to be sure, but if it shows no past heart attacks, your symptoms do sound like mine.

Not a doctor. Just a patient.
