Plan the move complete with measurements and diagrams. The diagrams don't have to be fancy, just something on a piece of paper. Plan how you are going to move the item, where you are going to move it to and the dimensions of the room, item and space so you do not have to spend extra time and effort redoing the move if for some reason the item does not fit where you want it to go. Another thing that can happen is that you decide to move an item from one room to another, you reach half way only to realize that it is too big to fit through a door and you have to find another way to get it in that room or move it somewhere else. That happened to me one time.
Remember to lift with your legs not your back.
Make the item you are moving as light as possible by removing things in or on them.
A great product that you can use are "Moving men furniture sliders". You put these moving men under the edges of your furniture or item and it enables you to slide it easily on the floor. It is also great for moving stuff so that you can clean properly.

Another item you can use is something called a furniture dolly. You place the item on the dolly and roll it to where you want to go.

I would suggest using a lifting cart. These help a lot especially with lifting heavy items. You will still; however, need to make sure you are following the directions to make sure you are using this piece of equipment correctly. You should check out the Cart Guy website (http://www.cartguy.com). They sell all sorts of carts including lifting carts. Hope this helps.

I would recommend the following options: 1. Ask a fellow neighbor to lend a hand
2. Barter with someone for a skill that you have in compensation for help with moving heavy stuff in your home.
3. If you are affiliated with a religious organization, you could always post a bulletin or make an announcement.
4. If there are any college kids in your area you can always offer them a small fee for their help. They usually need money.

A woman should not be having trouble moving small furniture or electronics. If you are not ill or very aged you should be getting more exercise including some weight training. Start at one of the fitness centers which have been springing up everywhere lately. It will have other health benefits besides making you more capable around the house. Alternatively, or in addition, you could catch a man.

I´m in the same position. So I talk to other women or men in the neighbourhood about it and ask if we can help each other when a situation arises where one of us has to carry something too heavy. Some were actually grateful that I did start the subject off and we´ve become friends.
