The European Chemicals Agency listed 7 substances of concern in their report on which chemicals should only be used with "specific authorisation". Several websites are reporting that all 7 are in fabric softener. In fact only 1, musk xylene, is used in fabric softener-- as a fragrance enhancer. While this doesn't mean fabric softener is safe, it does mean that some of the hoopla being created around the web is overblown.

Fresh air drying would solve using no softeners but yet getting the fresh air aroma!
