Dr. Oz I have carpal tunnel symdrome in both wrist's,my Dr.wants surgery. Is there anything that you recommend to avoid this, but cure me?
Edit your question
I've heard that surgery for carpal tunnel is risky and in many cases has to be redone years after, later? What I need to know from you is there anything that you could recommend that avoids this surgery, and also can cure or relieve my illness? I'm in constant pain and it's hard for me to do my daily activities because of the carpal tunnel which I've had since I was 25 yrs old and I'm now 42 yrs old.
Thank you,Dr. Oz Kristal

I voted "Best Answer," because this is the most appropriate response in light of Mahalo's Terms of Service, as they pertain to trademarks and copyrights. Well done!

You should have wrist xrays done first if not already. Wrist splints worn at night provide some relief. They should be the kind that props your wrist in a slightly hyperextended position (this opens the carpal canal, relieving pressure). Optional: may also consider a nerve conduction test to confirm carpal tunnel--it may be coming from your neck.

another option is a cortisone injection in the wrist. This can be done one to three times per wrist. Effects can last permanently or just a few months or years.

Some Physical Therapists use an intrared laser (as an outpatient treatment) that allegedly breaks up scar tissue (more common in europe)
