Yes. Increased body fat is metabolically active, meaning it produces hormones just like organs. In particular it is known to produce estrogen, making over weight women at higher risk for gynecologic cancers such as breast and uterine cancer. It is also related to an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in both men and women, as well as gallbladder, liver and heart disease.
