Apparently not. It seems to be a myth perpetuated by parents and teachers who don't like the sound. Saying that, you do have to wonder if it does do some damage, and there are many ways to crack them - a pull, a twist, splaying them etc. One way may hurt you more than others..
Asker's Rating:
• I rather suspected it was a myth by those who did not like the sound of cracked knuckles. Although not factually backed up I tend to agree with this answer.

It depends on how you crack them from my experience. If you pull, no. If you bend, yes.

Some myths are based on facts. But I won't argue with a Doctor. I have pain only in the fingers I used to crack the most (thumbs and first two) so it seems like it did.

No, cracking your knuckles does not lead to arthritis but it can lead to detention. ;-)

It can however damage the ligaments in the knuckles and cause further damage if done repeatedly.
