• I rather suspected it was a myth by those who did not like the sound of cracked knuckles. Although not factually backed up I tend to agree with this answer.

No, cracking your knuckles does not lead to arthritis but it can lead to detention. ;-) It can however damage the ligaments in the knuckles and cause further damage if done repeatedly.
