I have no medical expertise, but The Nurse Lady does and she offers the following advice on her site about healing bruises:

--quote--
When you get a bruise put a covered ice pack on it immediately. The bruise is caused by blood under the skin and the ice will stop the bleeding faster. Put the ice on for 10 minutes then off for 10 minutes for about one hour. Eating foods high in vitamin C will help the healing process and I have heard that vitamin K topically also helps to heal bruises faster.

I got a nasty bruise from an acupuncture treatment. I used a muscle lotion with niacin to treat it. It went away fairly quickly. I have a friend that swears by arnica lotion.

Ice may help with bruising immediately after an initial injury; it will likely decrease the size of the bruising. If you have severe bruising that has lasted a while you can try putting a heating pad on the bruise. I got a NASTY hematoma last summer that caused deep tissue bruising. The doctor had me use heat to break up the clotting. The same idea will work for superficial bruising also, but it will still take time.

I would suggest "arnica" gel. You can get this from any health food shop and it works wonders on bruises. Not only does it reduce the swelling but it gets rid of the darkness and discoloration quicker then other remedies. Also try eating alot of fresh fruit and vegetables.
