The characteristics of bipolar disorder are split into two groups, Manic & depressive. The manic characteristics, or symptoms, are feeling extremely happy or high, or extremely anxious or irritable for a long period of time & with no external reason. During this phase, one may have racing thoughts, talk almost non-stop, be easily distracted, sleep very little, have an inflated sense of self, & act impulsively & recklessly. The depressive characteristics, or symptoms, are feeling worried or empty & losing interest in pleasurable activities for a long period of time & with no external reason. During this phase, one may feel tired & worn down, experience changes in sleep & appetite, have problems with concentration & memory, feel anxious & irritable & think of death and suicide. Those with bipolar I will experience more of the manic symptoms, while those with bipolar II will experience more of the depressive symptoms.
