Large, uncomfortable gulps of really warm water has helped me in the past. Also getting someone to scare you can help too. According to published reports, sex is also a cure for hiccups. I have included a link below describing the reports.

Just focus on something other than hiccups. Ie do a math problem, try to say ABC's backwards, umm play a video game. Thats what i do. and they always go away

Mary Poppins was right, a spoonfull of sugar under your tongue usually does the trick. Not sure why but my wife told me about this and it has worked everytime for me.
