Here's a few things I use to stop the itch:
Camomile lotion - Sooths the irritation like magic, though is very messy.
Toothpaste - Strange, but the sting actually takes your mind off the itch. Less scratching and redness.

Also tea-tree oil and cool green tea teabags places over the bite. They both are great for reducing the itching.
