Definitely drinking soda regularly is a waste of calories. For every 3000 calories an average person gains a pound. If the average soda has 120 calories in it then for every 25 sodas you drink it is a 1lb gain. The answer isn't to drink diet sodas either. Study's have proved that a person drinking diet sodas is more likely to crave real sugar throughout the day, also leading to increased calorie consumption. Soda is a lose, lose situation. Drink mostly water. OJ and Milk (even chocolate) are also much better spent calories.

One main risk of drinking too much sugary drinks, on the long run, is diabetes. I know this because I also drink a lot of sugar on a daily basis, and it is a personal concern of mine for a while now.

But I think if you maintain an equilibrium - exercise and don't overdose on sugar everyday, you'll probably be ok. Just a matter of spending energy everyday, so you need more sugar than what you consume.
