Can staring at a computer screen actually make your eyesight worse?
I've heard from some people that computer and TV screens can make your eyesight worse and cause you to need to wear glasses, while others say it just makes your eyes tired but doesn't actually damage them. Which is true?

There is no evidence that staring at a computer screen for long periods of time can do any physical damage to your eyesight, however, people who spend a lot of time in front of the computer often experience symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (or CVS) including headaches, back and shoulder pain and fatigue. I work with computers all day and I have dealt with this issue. Here are some things that I've done to reduce the effects:
1. Make sure your workspace is well lit. If your office gets dark later in the day, try getting some lamps to place around your work station.
2. Take short breaks and let your eyes focus on something other than the computer screen for a minute or two.
3. Lower the brightness of you computer screen so it best matches the background lighting of your office.
Hope this helps!
P.S. If you're vision becomes blurry or you can't focus on the screen, its probably a good idea to go to an opthamologist to get your eyes checked

I think common sense would say "Yes".
We bipeds did not evolve to stare at a plane of light all day. We're supposed to be hunting and gathering, not typing and staring. It is essentially unnatural for us to do so.
But alas, here in the modern world, it is of course necessary.
It is murky whether such activities are actually damaging or not, but too much of anything is damaging: people have actually killed themselves drinking too much water (!) So *even water* can be physically harmful in excess. I would say it follows that yes, if you overdo it, using a computer can actually be physically dangerous in several ways.
So the best answer to this is probably to moderate your computer usage to prevent damage.

Even if it doesn't damage your eyes directly to stare at the computer all day, it can harm the rest of your body to be in one position for eight hours in a row. Getting up, taking your eyes off the screen and moving around to restore circulation and give your muscles a new position is really helpful when it comes to maintaining your health.
Yes that's true! you can prevent the damage on your eyes when wearing reading glasses. But don's use sunglasses, sunglsses is for the uv ray of the sun.
