Are natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgeries (NOTES) a good idea?

Kimberly Johnson donated a kidney to her niece. The kidney was removed through her vagina.

Some doctors say this is good for the donor because it reduces healing time and scarring. Other doctors say this is bad for the patient because it may not be sterile and could damage the organ.

What do you think? Well-reasoned responses only please, not looking for "this is gross/weird" comments.

While this does sound strange, if I was having surgery rapid recovery, minimal pain, and no scarring sounds like a good idea. I think it sounds like a better idea when NOTES is done for surgeries other than organ donations, like removing gallbladders or appendixes through the mouth or diseased kidneys from the vagina. Donating organs requires the needs of the donor and the patient to be taken into account; NOTES for kidney donations might not be sanitary, plus the kidney is squeezed into a tube, which may harm the kidney. There's no point in donating an organ, if the organ isn't going to have the best possible chance of surviving in the new body. And donations are already a delicate operation as it is. So I guess what I'm saying is that while NOTES seems like an excellent medical step in less invasive surgery, until they figure out for sure that the organ will be fine removed through the vagina I wouldn't want to receive a organ removed by NOTES and I wouldn't want to donate one that way either (if I care enough to donate, I care enough to have a longer recovery time).

But then again, if it gets more people to become living donors then I guess it's worth a risk and has the potential to save more lives. Kimberly Johnson seem satisfied with the procedure. Here's what she had to say about it:
