Eye twitches are caused by irritation or stimulation of the nerves controlling the eyelid muscles. Possible causes include irritation of the eyes or dry eyes, fatigue, stress, alcohol, caffeine, and prolonged computer use. Rarely, eye twitching is an early symptom of a more serious nerve or brain disorder; and you should see a doctor if the twitching worsens or becomes more widespread, if there are signs of infection such as redness or swelling, or if your eyelids start to droop.
