On the 100 mile diet you will eat only those foods which come from within a 100 mile radius of where you are.

On the website of the Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon, the recap of their one year quest for the 100 mile diet is shared. The FAQs and the getting started guide offer advice to someone who wishes to accept the challenge. One piece of advice offered is to start small. Try one meal first. This allows you to research what your food options are in your area.

As mentioned in the site FAQs, Alisa and JB had trouble finding things like wheat and making connections with local growers. If you plan to do the 100 mile diet for any length of time, look for these connections before you start.

Gather recipes using the foods which are grown in your area. This will allow you variety in your diet, particularly if you are more accustomed to cooking from box and prepackaged foods.
