Should the U.S. military ban tobacco use?

Military health experts are proposing a ban on tobacco use by soldiers
They say tobacco use affects readiness ands later leads to serious health issues. Study calls for ban on the sale of tobacco products on military bases and installations.

This is crazy. If they want to use tobacco products, let them. Which is a bigger health concern, being shot at or smoking a cigarette.

WOW! I can't begin to answer that and I don't like cigarettes, cigars, tobacco chewing it.

It would be a legal issue, medical ethics..... and if enacted, you'd have some lawyers and civil rights activists who smoke suing the US Military and government! ha!

I am a smoker and i feel that tobacco should be baned because
it is easy to keep buying packs of smokes.

If you can some time take a jar with a lid and hole in the lid put water in it about half full put the cig in the hole now light it let it burn and do it with a
pack then take the cig and lid off and put the water in ther jar in to a fry pan
cook it on the stove on about med for a while see what you get after that
you will have a pan of tar sick right. Tobacco will kill !!

I have a few marine friends and there is a calming effect that chewing tobacco has for them. They are constantly under stress and according to my buddy, it is definitely helpful to have that few minutes of relax time.

I think this is a stupid idea, how about we ban cigarettes for Our Pres Obama. thats bad for our pres to smoke, because it will affect his health. If this gets passed i will be permanently disappointing in our military and govt. If they are going to pass a law, lets have it affect our commander in chief too!!!!

I have no habit of smoking.I have to pass different stressful condition.I not take any smoke to relieve stress.So I not agree,smoking needed for relax.

Yes I strongly agree this decision.There is no benefit in smoking,so need ban in whole world not in only soldier.

I say less govt. If people want to smoke then let them. But if they are goign to control whats good and bad for us, then the govt should ban fast food, alcohol, many pharmaceutical drugs (including advil, tylenol "These can kill you to") Drinking to much water can kill you to, lets ban that.

The biggest addictive substance is caffeine and the "jitteryness" some people experience with caffeine can affect performance. But for many people its makes you more alert, so should caffeinated coffee be banned?

Tobacco is bad for you, but its the least worry that many of our soldiers are facing. Also, i have a feeling if you take that away from them, then other drugs illegal and pharmaceutical drugs may become more of a problem.
