She admitted this during her show years ago - mid 90's probably.
In fact here is a link:

She admitted to it in 1995.

I believe that about 12 years ago, she admitted on her show that she smoked crack in her 20's. It didn't hurt her career then and it won't hurt her career now.

The person Oprah was when she was 20--a young girl madly in love with a man who was bad for her--is not at all who she is now. If anything, she should be praised for: 1) Being wise enough to get out of the situation and not become an addict, 2) Being honest about it, 3) Going on to become the successful and influential woman she is today.

Like her weight problem, her health issues, and every other bit of herself she's shared on her show, this just makes her more human, makes people relate to her and admire her more. It gives people hope that, yes, it is possible to get out of tough situations, learn from them, and move on. The bad decisions you made in the past do not have to define the person you are today.

  1. Cook claims that she was still under the influence of cocaine when she started her show. Excuse me? How many crack addicts have you seen with a weight problem? One of the symptoms of cocaine use is "loss of appetite leading to malnutrition and weight loss."
  2. He comes out with the revelations in the National Enquirer. If there was ANY truth to this story, don't you think one of the networks would have covered it?
  3. National Enquirer "reporters" claim to have found a secret court document--court documents are not ever "secret." They are either sealed or unsealed. If it was unsealed, the information should have gone into a database and been found out long before now. She's Oprah, this is the first time someone tried to dig up dirt on her? Come on!!
  4. Absolutely no concrete details about this alleged court document have been revealed. For all we know, if the document actually exists, it was someone else who used the name "Oprah Winfrey."

Given the recent John Edwards debacle, where mainstream newspapers and magazines stayed away from the story until National Enquirer REALLY showed it and then he admitted to it, an ad hominem against the Nat'l Enquirer doesn't really work.

::sigh:: Actually a few. How many crack addicts have you known? ;)

Just because you are addicted to a narcotic doesnt mean you cannot be fat. Oprah admitted it a long time ago, this is somehow 'news' because people have short attention spans.

Hmmm. If this is true (in this day & age anything can happen) , she has alot of explaining to do to all her faithful fans.  I mean Oprah is not a perfect person... far from it.  She is a normal human being like the rest of us.  With faults and cravings. Now if her blood can cure cancer or something.  Well then that would be amazing and then she deserves praise and worship.  :

Exactly. Who cares. It doesn't lessen my opinion of her. I hope the scum-sucking pig doesn't make a single penny off his book.
