My personal favorite : The Whaley House located on San Diego Avenue and Harney Street in Old Town San Diego. You can visit (if you dare) from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. It is creepy!
Some inhabitants there (deceased but still hanging around) are Mr. & Mrs. Whaley, one of the Whaley children who died from scarlet fever, and Yankee Jim. Yankee Jim was hung on the property before it became the Whaley residence.

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights are considered extremely frightening and among the best in the country.
