This one is easy! And it's beautiful. You basically take small strands of hair from each side and clip them in the back. Cutsey barrettes with beads and sparkly stuff on it look best, but plain ones work fine too. This is my favorite style for long hair (I have bottom length hair)

EDIT: Oops, I forgot to read your full question that you want your hair beneath shoulder blade. Anyway, hope this video will help.

You can also glitz it up with sparkly pins.

When using these hot sticks, make sure that you do not put too much hair on the curler. It will still curl but it won't hold. (that is why I bought 2 sets)
Before curling, use a styling gel. It will help keep in your curls.
After you have your hair all up in the rods, then you can start putting on your make up and everything. You do not want to take them out until they are cold.
Once your rods have cooled, take out the rods and let hair just sit. Important note. Put the clothes you are going to wear on after you take out your rods and before you do anything with the curls.
Now all you have to do is take a curl and break it apart. Do not comb or brush them. You are going to take a very small section of the curl and completely separate it from the whole curl. Do this with all of them. My husband usually has to help me with this step. You will have alot of body and alot of curl. After is is done, spray with a non stiffening super hold hairspray.
I am sorry that I don't have a picture for you but I promise it will look great.

If you're doing your hair yourself, perhaps try curling all of your hair and then put your locks into a side ponytail with a pretty clip.

1. If you want to look simple, have your hair curled. The curls must be a little big to create a simple yet sexy look in you. To add a little drama, clip one side with a cute clip with some sparkly clip on it.
2. How about roll your hair then tie it at the back?
This is done by twisting your hair til you gather everything on one side. Read here for further instruction: http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/hair-roll/
3. If you have a great looking hair clip, you can do crown roll.
To do this, just gather small amount of hair from both sides then twist til you reached the back part then clip it with a pretty hair accessory. For more information about this hairstyle, read: http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/crown-roll/.
I personally like those hairstyles. They look pretty simple and easy to do. To make your hair style standout though it's just simply styled, put great looking clips. They aren't really expensive.

I like less tight updos, I find them more comfortable. Here's a nice bun and curls combo with a braid accent: http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/curly-bun/ (sorry, I'm having issues pasting in photos.)

Please give a recommendation on a hair style for long hair for a formal event.
I prefer a simple style. Event is for a Marine Ball. Hair is beneath shoulder blade length. Please include pictures and the website where they come from.

This is interesting, I'd just have to think about where to find the sparkly stuff.

I usually get mine at Wal-Mart or Sally's Beauty supply. I've also made some with hot glue guns and beads or glitter. Maybe an arts and craft store?

You didn't misunderstand. I don't mind a completely updo, I was just providing the hair length info. The video link doesn't embed but I had never noticed that you could choose other videos from them. I looked at a couple of the other ones instead.

I love updo's but my hair is so thick that I can't get it to stay up with bobby pins. Literally, the weight of my hair will pull the bobby pins out. I bummed from it because I love the elegant look of updo's.

Thanks, the twist is probably my fall back if I can't get something different. I know it will work and is simple enough. I should have started sooner having something tried. Tough going to a new place to have something done when you know nothing about their capabilities.

I totally understand.
I do not trust to many people to cut my hair. They can really screw it up if they do not know what they are doing. Good Luck with your decision!

I have hair that is so long that I sit on it. When ever I go somewhere formal I use my Conair Hot sticks. I had to buy 2 sets to have enough. They are simple to use and the curls last a long time even under the weight of my long hair. When using these hot sticks, make sure that you do not put too much hair on the curler. It will still curl but it won't hold. (that is why I bought 2 sets)

Thanks I used the hot sticks a few years back but I don't have a set now and probably can't find them without paying a small fortune for them. I think I will order a set from the US though because I could do my own if I had them.

It looks like you have long hair in your photos. I think that something really classy, if you're having your hair done by a professional, would be soft, 40s wave with your hair down. If you're doing your hair yourself, perhaps try curling all of your hair and then put your locks into a side ponytail with a pretty clip.

I'm not really sure about the shops there cause I haven't been there. :( I live in the other side of the world. I'm sorry. But I'm sure there are some at the malls and hair accessories shops out there.
You could match the color of the clip on the color of your eyes or on the dress you'll wear. :)

Try Marcella or Broadway gems. :) They sell pretty clips yet not expensive. They also sell those clips with some stones in it. :) I bought the headband I used during my prom years back at Broadway gems for only PHP 450. Quite cheap for something that are stone studded.
You can find both stores in all SM and Robinsons Malls. :)

I haven't done too many formal events, so can't give too many suggestions from personal experience. I generally feel more comfortable keeping my hair down, but feel like updo type styles stay nice longer. I like less tight updos, I find them more comfortable.
