What exactly is "Art Deco" in terms of graphic design?
A client is asking for an Art Deco style, but the sample stuff they send me is all over the map. Can anyone help clarify what exactly makes something "Art Deco" for the purposes of graphic design?

First, ask your client to pick the 2 best examples of what he/she likes.
The following is kind of a free association of what I think of when I think Art Deco.
Retro yet sort of modern
Simplified/Clean
Stylish
Smooth
Big sweeping arcs
Repetitious lines
Clean looking
Limited color palette
Mechanical rather than organic
Feeling of luxury
Buildings, posters, furniture, vehicles
I would think vector-based rather than pixels.
