Looking for Album covers that reference/appropriate famous/previous artworks.
We all know that the Coldplay Viva la Vida cover-art is an appropriation of Eugéne Delacroix's Liberty Leading The People, and I'm looking for more examples of album covers that have appropriated artworks. If anyone has some examples I'd be very appreciative.

There are a number of such album covers, indeed. Here are just a few that you may find interesting:
Deep Purple, their first, selftitled album features motives from Garden Of Delights by Hieronymus Bosch:

The Velvet Underground, another first, another selftitled, features an original artwork by Andy Warhol. The banana on the original '67 edition was a sticker which, when peeled off, revealed a pink banana fruit:

Fathers And Sons, 70's album by Muddy Waters, features a motive from Michelangelo (the Sistine Ceiling):

This is an interesting one: Closer, a 1980 album by Joy Division. It features a photo of a not particularly known work of art, the Appiani family tomb in the Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno in Genoa, Italy, by a 19th Century Italian artist Demetrio Paernio:

the closer the better - this one is a reference for sure but not quite as clear. I'm looking for for stuff similar to the viva la vida cover (artwork being incorporated right into the design/modified)
