I'm getting sick! What should I do?

I get sick this exact time every year, so I'm always miserable with a cold on Christmas morning. I'm just now starting to feel the scratchy throat and congestion setting in.
What can I do to prevent myself from getting sicker?

You can start using this stuff called Zicam. It quotes right on the box "Actually shortens the cold!"

Anectodally, I've heard that Zicam doesn't work all that well.

Then again... the placebo effect works!

I tried Zicam recently after a recommendation from a friend and truly believe that it works. I generally stay sick for 2-3 weeks, but with the Zicam, the cold was gone in just over a week. It's expensive and there are some risks with taking that much Zinc by nose (there are oral versions available) but I think it is worth it.

Also, take Cold-Eeze the day you get the symptoms. I'm not a big Zicam fan, but I love Cold-Eeze, and my logical/skeptical partner does, too. I know my body pretty well, and it's saved me from colds many times. The least yechy, Zinc-y flavor we've found is the Lemon Lime flavor, which cuts the zinc taste a bit.

I have found that adding Goldenseal to Echinacea "turbo boosts" the effect.

I'll tell you what you should NOT do. Ironically, I read that ingesting vitamin C while you are sick or getting sick can somehow be counterproductive. Vitamin C should only be used to prevent sickness. When you're sick with the common cold, the best thing to ingest is soda for some reason..dark liquids. Root Beer or Ginger Ale. I would drink a soft drink now.

Seems like some chronicle condition, you may want to check with your doctor.

I personally highly recommend Nyquil at night and Alka Seltzer cold during the day to help alleviate symptoms. If this is a chronic condition, it may be related to some type of seasonal allergies or other condition which you may want to pursue with your doctor.
