If that doesn't work, you may have an excessively large or lax soft palate, which drops backwards in the throat while asleep, especially when you lie on your back.
You can avoid sleeping on your back (I've seen pyjamas with tennis balls sewn into the backs), there are sprays, which I think probably reduce inflammation and swelling in the back of the throat, and surgery (laser or otherwise) to reduce the bulk at the back of the throat.
Apart from disturbing your partner, severe snoring can result in sleep apnoea - that is when you stop breathing for 'long' periods as a result of airway obstruction - this severely disrupts your sleep and can have a massively negative impact on your life. It's worth sorting out.

If weight is an issue, I'd recommend trying to lose some as it will greatly reduce the incidence of snoring. If you have a deviated septum, that also plays a role. But, if you're looking for an over the counter remedy, I recommend a "breathe right" strip as it helps open up your airways. Sleeping on your side also helps!
