For the most part it all comes down to the materials themselves. Aluminum is lighter but harder to paint and keep paint on it. Iron is heavier but easier to paint and keep painted.
Aluminum shouldn't corrode in any problematic way. Iron can/will rust. If you fail to maintain the iron it could be difficult to repair.
Good Luck!

On the other hand, if you want to tranport the chairs (say to a friends BBQ) Aluminum is pretty easy to grab and go.
We got an iron set for the stability and the durability (and we got camping chairs to take to the BBQ's!).

Also, iron won't blow around in the wind when it storms, or if you have high winds. On the other hand, if you want to tranport the chairs (say to a friends BBQ) Aluminum is pretty easy to grab and go.
