Very tough to choose.
Whoopi Goldberg is consistently funny, but she never made me fall of the chair in laughter.
George Carlin was a legend of comedy and invented some of the all time great lines (and lists).
Mitch Herdberg was a comedic genius, but like James Dean, he left us way before his prime.
Homer Simpson. I'm not sure if comedic genius is a phrase to be used with Homer himself, but his creators definitely fall in that category.
But I would still have to go with Monty Python at the top spot.
They inspired so many other comedians over the years, including one of Simpson's cast members Hank Azaria.
Their sketches just never seem to grow old on me.

But the answer here is obvious - I have to vote for Monty Python. I mean, he does weigh the same as a duck. And therefore is made of wood and floats just like gravy. So logically....he's a witch! I mean....funniest comedian of the bunch!

God: Every time I try to talk to someone it's "sorry this" and "forgive me that" and "I'm not worthy"...
King Arthur: Well, we'll not risk another frontal assault. That rabbit's dynamite.
Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin were always great.

Monty Python, the iconic comedy series, has launched a YouTube channel. And although the page features a slew of clips from the show, most noteworthy is its featured video, which blames users for "ripping" the show off.
"For three years you YouTubers have been ripping us off, taking tens of thousands of our videos and putting them on YouTube," it says on the Monty Python YouTube page. "Now the tables are turned. It's time for us to take matters into our own hands.
"We know who you are, we know where you live and we could come after you in ways too horrible to tell. But being the extraordinarily nice chaps we are, we've figured a better way to get our own back: We've launched our own Monty Python channel on YouTube.
The post claims Monty Python has put an end to "those crap quality videos" that have been posted across YouTube and will start delivering "HQ videos" from the "vault."
All videos posted on the Monty Python channel will be free to view, but the show doesn't want viewers to watch the free shows and do nothing. Instead, it asks for something in return.
"None of your driveling, mindless comments," Monty Python wrote on its YouTube page. "Instead, we want you to click on the links, buy our movies and TV shows, and soften our pain and disgust at being ripped off all these years."

Very tough to choose in this one - some of my favorite funny men are in the running, but I'm going with Monty Python for the sole reason that I think they may be the most accessible to the most people. I know people of all ages who enjoy a good Python sketch or movie, while some people simply don't "get" Hedberg or Homer and Carlin's been known to offend some. For those that are interested, there's a great list of tons of great Python clips on this blog: http://onemansblog.com/2006/12/01/a-compendium-of-150-monty-python-sketches/

Man, it pains me greatly NOT to vote for Hedberg. The man was a brilliant, witty comedian who we lost way too soon. But the answer here is obvious - I have to vote for Monty Python. I mean, he does weigh the same as a duck. And therefore is made of wood and floats just like gravy. So logically....he's a witch! I mean....funniest comedian of the bunch!
