Have you ever picked and eaten apples direct from the tree? Has this become rare in modern times?

Yes, I've done it, multiple times. I live in southwestern Ontario, and there are a good deal of apple orchards here. Most allow you to pick your own apples, which is great, because you can pick them individually, mix types, etc, and it's a lot of fun to do. It's usually something like 20 dollars a bushel. There are likely 3 of these pick your own orchards within 10 minutes of my hometown. In my new city, there are at least 2 I know of within city limits. I don't think it's much less common than it used to be, however, I guess most people don't have apple trees in their backyard. (My grandparents do but they're the only ones I know of)

If you ever get the opportunity (and love apples), give it a try!

Yes, there is nothing better than to be able to pick your own fruits and vegatable right off the tree or vine as long as you check for those little spots from the worms. I think this is a great experience to show our children also so then can gain respect for where their food comes from and how it gets to their home. It actually has to be harvested.

I have. Many times in the fall I have gone to Hollis NH where you can pick apples for free in a few places and to Londonderry NH where Mack's Apples has been there since I was a kid. Rarely has a year gone by where I have not gone to pick apples at least once. Mr. President ... at Mack's in 2008

I have done this in the past. When my brother and sister would visit my grandparents house in Lineville, Al, we would all go to the backyard and pick green apples fresh from the tree. It's been years since I have had an apple (or any fruit) straight from the tree.

Yes. I worked in the apple industry in Central Washington for many years. So when I was out in the orchard, and the apples were ready, I picked one, cleaned it off on my shirt and enjoyed myself.

The apples are a bit crisper when you do this, and it is important to pick apples that you know will taste good. A Red Delicious will never be ripe on the tree, they pick them before they are ripe because they ripen in storage (they store them for up to a year, you know). It is better to pick a Gala or a Fuji if you want an apple to taste good off the tree.

And no, I didn't die from the residues left on the fruits. The sprays they use for pest control these days are much safer than they used in the past, and in some cases, they use mating disruption to prevent the codling moth from boring holes into the fruits.

Yes, I have picked and eaten apples directly from the tree countless times. Not only do I have an apple tree in my yard now, but we had a few of them when I was a kid. I am not sure about elsewhere in the world, but it's still a pretty common practice in my area.

I live in Spain and, depending on which way I travel (up mountain or down to coast level) there are abundant fruits here, which we are all allowed to pick for personal use.
Spain is famous for oranges, pears, apples, olives, cherries and other fruits like kakis and nispera, which are not so commonly know.
I love to pick fruit straight from the tree, nothing tastes quite like it!

I haven't been to an apple orchard. So I haven't got a chance to eat one directly picked from the tree. I live in the city. There is no orchard closer to where I live
It is still a wish. May be next year, I will try.

I was expecting more answers like this. But it seems a lot of people manage to find apple trees even today so with a bit of luck you should be able to manage it too.
