About a month ago someone recommended Frostwire to me. I used to use limewire but it got ridiculous with tons of files with viruses. I would highly recommend this software. I haven't had no problems with files having viruses or Trojans. Occasionally I will have a file that downloads and it is blank, but that is it. I like this program since you can also download other media besides mp3s.

I pay for the music that I want to add to my library. It's cheap, high quality, virus-free and legally obtained.
I like iTunes and Amazon.com for purchasing individual tracks. For entire CD's I usually go to Best Buy or Wal Mart.

There are ways to 'rip' streamed music and video using tools available online to get them into an .mp3 (and other formats) file. I'll let you search for those on your own as I personally believe in supporting the artist you're listening to by purchasing music directly through their website and/or an iTunes/SnoCap like service.
I personally advise people to stay away from file sharing platforms as they are being over run by viruses and spyware. If I had to recommend one I'd say BitTorrent.com; but remember the main recommendation is purchase the content directly from the artist/creator if possible.
Hope that helps.

I like Pandora, Blip.fm, and good old-fashioned FM Radio for listening to music for free. I pay for the music that I want to add to my library. It's cheap, high quality, virus-free and legally obtained.
