A soapbox is a raised platform that a speaker stands on to be heard over a crowd or to gather a crowd. Often used by politicians and public speakers in the park :)

To make one all you need is a box that is strong enough for you to stand on - an old vegetable box might work or a step-up used for exercise. The old ones were wooden.

The phrase 'get off your soapbox' really means get off your box and stop making a scene, stop sprouting rubbish etc like a politician :)
