Jason,
It costs roughly $49 for a 3 month license on editorial (celebrity and news) images. I'm pretty sure the $5 mentioned above only applies to stock, and not editorial images.
I also wanted to do this for my blog, but don't have that sort of cabbage for a single picture (who does?), so I called them to get a personalized quote on getting one editorial image a day. They quoted me $1000 for @25 images a month!!!! I said, uh, "No seriously, I'm just a blogger who is not making any money. How much for a guy like me?" Still $1000. So that was that.
I included a link that talks about editorial subscriptions, but you can see that they require you to call so they can squeeze you for every possible dime.
Now I'm on a quest to destroy this outdated and monopolistic pricing model with a startup of my own. Who know, perhaps I'll be calling TWIST one of these days for some sage advice.

**short enough?*
The problem with answering this as a tweet is the fees are only a ballpark due to usage terms, copyright holders, and number of page views. AP allows you to use the image but you still must contact the photographer and get permission. Plus if the image is of a celebrity, the studios he or she is affiliated with may have certain image publishing rights. Depending on the usage, it may be cheaper to buy a camera and turn stalker!

As for AP i Know contracts are negotiated on an individual base with media companies. AP sets the price based on website exposure. I know for a fact a large news website with an Alexa rating of 4000 and being in top 5 national in a European country would be charged $200 a month. This is for access to all their news photos. All categories.
