Dan Rooney has been working on projects relating to Ireland for more than 30 years.
He co-founded and is currently vice-chairman of the American Ireland Fund in 1976. According to their website, the fund promotes four goals: peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, community development, and education. (http://www.irlfunds.org/aif/)
In 1987 he started the Prize for Irish Literature. The prize goes to Irish writers under forty, typically the up and coming, encouraging them to write. (http://irishpennsylvania.com/DanRooney.aspx)
