I agree that there shouldn't be an age limit, but you might want to think about what the ideal age would be. And that's why I would say seven years old. In the book, the White Queen says, "And how old are you?" and Alice replies, "I'm seven-and-a-half exactly."
I guess it would be most effective for someone to read a story about a child who is the same age. Plus that's a great time for the kind of imagination the story promotes.

Seven is a great choice, especially since Alice is the same age. I think that would have more meaning to a child being the same age as her in the book.

Great answer, and cute picture. My add in is that this story was made for little kids, the person who originally wrote the story made it for kids. I did a report about this movie/book.

Id say no age limit, heck if I had a child and he/she could read moby dick Id let it. The more they start reading and the more they enjoy reading the smarter (not 100% true but more likely) they are to be intelligent and enjoy learning.

It's been proven that reading to your child before he or she can read will help with your child's reading comprehension later on: http://www.babycenter.com/0_reading-to-your-baby_368.bc
The reason that this one is one of my favorites is because when I was a child growing up in New York City, my mom would take me to the Alice and Wonderland statue in Central Park. It was one of my favorite places and I think part of that was because I loved reading the book along with my parents when I was learning to read.

I think as soon as your child is old enough to sit still and enjoy a story. My daughter and I both grew up to this classic.
